but no pressure

20111222-152806.jpg

It’s 3:30pm. I’ve completed 5 bath puffs and washcloths, and have to crochet 5 soap saver sachets and a baby blanket by tomorrow morning. None of which are started yet. And I’m maybekindasorta high on pain killers (I’ve got strep AGAIN) and I’m also mildly allergic to them so I have to keep stopping to scratch. Woooooo…….

where i’ve been, where i am, and where i’ll be, part 2

Where I am:

-I am finally back at work!  Technically I was back two weeks ago, but missed most of the 2nd week running around taking care of Henri.  I missed one day to bring him to the doc to get a puffer for a chest cold, then missed the following 2 days going back to the neurologist at the hospital for another consult and then blood tests.  Each time we got home at lunch time- too late to get him to daycare, which meant I had to bring him home for nap.  And if that leaves me with nothing to do during his 3.5-hour afternoon naps but watch TV and knit…well…there’s no rule that I can’t enjoy it. 🙂

-I am 40 lbs lighter than I was on my wedding day!  Since I came home from my honeymoon pregnant with Jakob, I’m not counting gaining/losing any baby weight.  If I go back to my highest weight while pregnant, then I can say I’ve lost over 60 lbs.  Woo hoo!

I went shopping for the first time in  years and had a heck of a time trying to figure out what size I am, and what fits.  It’s going to take time, but I’m slowly trying to rebuild my wardrobe.  I’m really looking forward to spending less money and less time knitting garments for myself, that’s for sure!

-I am still studying nightly for school, and really looking forwards to my final exam in  August, just to feel like the year is finally over.  Only 2 more to go…blargh.

-I am also trying to catch up on non-posted projects.  To that end, here’s a project from Sept 2010 that had a redux just a few months ago…

Aren’t they cute?  My friend/neighbor C is a HUGE Pee Wee fan, and a long time ago she’d sent me a link to these guys in the Crafty is Cool etsy store.  I can’t find a link now, so Allison’s patterns may only be available through Ravelry now, I’m not sure.  Some of you may have heard of/seen her amigurumis before- I believe her Oprah doll made the rounds a while ago, and her Conan O’Brien was huge on the ‘net around the time of the whole O’Brien/Leno debacle.

Anyways, I’d made a joke to C about making them for her for her birthday.  And then she promptly forgot about it.  I didn’t.  🙂  I LOVE when that happens, not only when there’s a perfect gift opportunity, but especially when it’s a perfect handmade gift opportunity!

Her birthday is in September, so last year when I was home recuperating from the hernia/tonsil surgeries, I made these for her.

Pattern:  Pee Wee Herman Amigurumi PeeWee Doll and Chairry from Pee-Wee’s Playhouse Amigurumi by  Allison Hoffman (Ravelry link)

Size:  one size, Pee Wee about 16″, Chairry about 8″ or so?

Yarn: Assorted Phentex acrylic from my stash and Zellers, in gray, white, peach, aqua.

Needles:  4mm crochet hook

Dates:  September 3 – 11 2010 (Pee Wee) and September 12 – 14 2010 (Chairry)

Modifications:  None.  I used a bamboo skewer cut in half to support the neck, and some white, red and black felt from Fabricville.  I didn’t know if the self-adhesive felt would work, so I just sewed everything by hand with matching thread.  It took a try or two to get Chairry’s eyes right, but I used pins to hold them in place and get a idea of where I wanted to sew them down.   Pee Wee’s eyes are black yarn sewn over and over small black felt circles, and there’s a touch of blush on his cheeks.

The only problem I had with the pattern was the placement of the black hair cap- I’d thought the widow’s peak was crocheted into the cap, as were the sideburns.  Turns out neither are, you just need to arrange it as you sew it in place.  An email to the designer was answered pretty quickly, and I was able to finish well in time for C’s birthday.

It worked out great- I was able to get her hubby to let me into their garage when she was out, and I arranged Pee Wee and Chairry together over a birthday card, as a surprise for when she got back.  She loved them, and even took Pee Wee with her to meet the REAL Pee Wee at his stage show!  He (the real one) saw my version of Allison’s work a 2nd time when C tweeted a pic of her hubby, son and dad all dressed up as Pee Wee serving her a birthday breakfast, and holding the doll, and the real Pee Wee retweeted the pic!)

As usual you can find my finished (and unfinished!) projects in my “projects” page by clicking the tab up at the top of every page on my blog, and I also have this project in my Ravelry notebook here (PeeWee) or here (Chairry) .

C’s brother H loves Pee Wee almost as much as C, so when his birthday rolled around this April, C asked if she could get me to make one for him too.  We worked out a trade (she’s a fabulous seamstress and I’m in need of clothes being taken in!) and so when I was home recuperating from this latest hernia surgery, I made H’s Pee Wee.  (Apparently I make one each time I’m recuperating LOL)

Pattern:  Pee Wee Herman Amigurumi PeeWee Doll by  Allison Hoffman (Ravelry link)

Size:  one size, about 16″ tall

Yarn:  Assorted Phentex acrylic from stash (leftovers from the original stash/Zellers purchase)

Needles:  4mm crochet hook

Dates:  April 18-23 2011

Modifications:  None.

I didn’t remember to check a pic of the first one, so without realizing I made Pee Wee the 2nd’s eyes much bigger.  I also added eyebrows and a light reflection, in trying to make it look good.  I think I also forgot the blush on the cheeks, and I overstuffed the legs- they are awesomely stiff, but you can see the stuffing through the holes in the stitches.  All in all, I think I prefer the first one.

As usual you can find my finished (and unfinished!) projects in my “projects” page by clicking the tab up at the top of every page on my blog, and I also have this project in my Ravelry notebook here .

wise men say only fools rush in

I suppose I’m lucky- I don’t have that many craftastrophies in my past.  In my knitting and crochet life, as far as Ravelry and my memory are concerned, there are only 2- the pocketbook slippers, and the licorice thong.

Until now.

🙂

I’m a longtime reader of Faith’s blog The Needle and the Damage Done.  (Some of you may remember her from the sadly-defunct Knitting Cook podcast).  A while ago Faith knit a Lace Ribbed Bolero.  And another one.  And another one.

I suddenly decided that I needed one too.  I stash-dove (the advantages of having 85% of my stash in Ravelry) and realized I didn’t have anything in the proper weight for what I wanted.  While I was at it I looked through my queue and found a tank/vest/thing I’d liked for a while, the Deep V Top, and figured I’d look around for yarn and would knit/crochet whichever one worked out.

This all took place in March, back when I was supposed to have my surgery.  It was postponed because I’d injured my belly muscles in an incredibly non-accident car accident, but I was still home for a week to recuperate- home with time to kill.

I don’t know why I went to Zellers instead of my LYS.  I guess I figured that I’d score some cheap yarn and make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear…I dunno.  All I know is that I was somehow roped into the allure of cheap yarn.  I don’t even mean “inexpensive” yarn- I really mean cheap yarn.

1 lb of “lovely” bright teal blue acrylic, worsted/bulky weight.  I guess I thought it would be summery?

2 days is all it took.  Less, even.  I cast March 9 and finished attaching the loooooong border March 10.  6mm and 6.5mm crochet hooks.

It was thick, huge and stiff.  (heh).  It looked and felt like wearing a cardboard vest.

I put it on twice, once to see if it fit, and once for this photo (where I’m making my best “catwalk pout” face).  On the 3rd day, before I could change my mind and convince myself it was “fashion” or that “I’d actually wear it”, I ripped.

On the 4th day I went back to Zellers and bought ANOTHER bag of the %&*( stuff!  I’m going to blame stress, pain, and boredom.  I knew I couldn’t return the open bag, so somehow I told myself that meant I needed MORE of it so that when I was ready to use it for something, I’d have enough.

Argh.  It’s not bad yarn, it’s a perfectly good bulky-ish acrylic, and there is totally place in my stash for acrylic yarn.  I know when I have a need for it I’ll be glad it’s there.  (Maybe I’ll knit some giant toys for the boys?)

Still, there’s a small part of me that wishes, back on that March morning when I impulsively stopped at Zellers after dropping the kids off at daycare, that I’d kept on driving.  My LYS is 3 minutes south of Zellers.  For the price of the two bags I could very possibly be wearing a Deep V Top right now.  It would be too big, ‘cus I lost another 10 lbs or so after the latest surgery, but that’s not exactly the point.

The project is here on Ravelry, if for any reason you feel the need to revisit.

new pattern up: my first hockey player: montreal canadiens

NOTE: for some reason comments are closed for this post…I’m not sure why, but you can still reach me by email if you want.

It’s up!!  I’ve been working on it for a while, and I’ve finally finished my HABS player pattern!  And thanks to our boys making it to game 7 tomorrow, now YOU’VE got enough time to knit up a little good luck totem of your own!  (Or, depending on how things turn out, it makes a great voodoo doll…hehe)

The pattern is $2.99 CAD and is available in Ravelry here, or to purchase directly click here.  That link is for a Ravelry PDF download, but you don’t need to be a Ravelry member to purchase.

I hope you enjoy it!  I tried my best to make the pattern faithful to the red home uniform, and you can knit it with just stripes, or duplicate stitch/embroider the famous CH logo.  There’s even room on the back to duplicate stitch your favorite player’s initials (and even his name, if you’re good at embroidery!).

last tuesday…and this tuesday

LAST Tuesday I got up bright and early to go for the abdominal ultrasound.  They pushed, poked and prodded me for about 45 minutes, going over every square inch of belly from my ribs down to my c-section.  I was glad they were thorough, but MAN it hurt!  They said my doc would get the results by Thursday, but that they didn’t see anything wrong.

Whew!  I made it home in one piece, popped a pain killer, and slept the rest of the day.

THIS Tuesday was less painful, and more productive.

In January I knit a hat for my aunt.

A few years ago my cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer, and when she underwent treatment and lost her hair, I knit her some hats.  (I forgot I also knit her a shawl to wear during chemo).

Well, not long after that, my aunt (same side of the family) was diagnosed.  I had planned on knitting her a hat, to start, but then she decided on a course of treatment that didn’t result in hair loss.  So I had planned on making her slippers…and then I started school and had less time…and in the end I forgot.

Her birthday rolled around again in January and my family was going to Toronto (where my aunt lives) and I decided to surprise her by sending down a hat.

It was a little short on me, but everyone’s head is different, and I wasn’t sure how it would fit her.

I told my mom to tell her that I still had about 1/3 of the ball of yarn, so if she wanted it longer, I could easily make it longer.

She wanted it longer. 🙂

This photo (above) shows the new length.  I had originally been planning on crocheting around the hat to add the length, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to find stitches in fun fur when crocheting.  I realized right away it would be much faster to slip my CO sts onto a circ and just knit around until almost out of yarn, then bind off.

That’s exactly what I did.  It added about 4.5″ more- you can (barely) see the orange stitch marker in between where my eyes would be (below), and I put that marker on my first new round last night. So everything from there down, is new.

It’s obviously too long when worn pulled tight, but you can wear it with a bit of slouch in the back and the brim right above the eyes…

…or roll up the brim to win.  😀

Pattern:  “No Hair Day” Hairy Chemo Cap by  Sue W. Thompson (Ravelry link)

Size:  medium (66 sts)

Yarn:  Red Heart Foxy, 1 ball

Needles:  5.5mm

Dates:  January 20 – March 15 2011 (though really only 1 nights: I knit the hat on Jan 20th, and knit the 4.5 extra inches on March 15th).

Modifications:  Just the extra length.

As usual you can find my finished (and unfinished!) projects in my “projects” page by clicking the tab up at the top of every page on my blog, and I also have this project in my Ravelry notebook here .

last weekend…and this weekend

What a week, what a week.  I don’t even know where to begin…

I think I’ll recap last week, daily, as I blog through this coming week.  So now (Sunday night) I’ll tell you about last weekend, then tomorrow I’ll tell you about last Monday, etc.

Ok then…

Last weekend I finished the elephant!  All the knitting was done Friday night, and I started the seaming.  The front/back was joined together, and I had the underbelly about halfway in place when I went to bed.  Saturday I was home with the boys and while they napped in the afternoon I finished the underbelly and stuffing the legs, and that night, while Yannick went out, I finished sewing in the feet, attaching the ears and working in some eyes.

After all my talk of knitting her in the round, she was done flat, and I was fine with that.  The seaming went really well, fast and easy.  And I don’t mind the finished look.

C’mon- how could you be upset at this face??

Pattern:  Flo the Elephant (vintage pattern rewritten in Knitty.com by Franklin Habit) (Ravelry link)

Size:  as written (see photo with Superman figurine for scale, below)

Yarn:  Red Heart Misty (blue/purple heather) and Pingouin Safiro (purple solid) held double-stranded throughout

Needles:  3.75mm

Note on needle size- because I used two worsted/chunky yarns held together, I could have easily gone up in needle size.  My final fabric was dense and squishy, but even if you pulled the garter stitch you couldn’t see through it.  I think I could have gone up maybe even a few needle sizes and still had a fabric that was dense enough to hide the stuffing, but would have given me a bigger overall toy.  I was a little disappointed in the final size and would have preferred it to be bigger.  (Nothing to do with the pattern- it’s just that I’d deliberately chosen to double-strand the thick yarns in order to get a bigger toy than normal.  I was hoping for something as large as, if not larger than, the baby it is for).

Whata tush!

Dates:  February 16 – March 5 2011

Modifications:  None.  I omitted the decorative stitching and did knotted eyes for safety (and subtlety).  Now that I know where everything is in the pattern, next time I would end before the tail sts and sew on a braided tail instead.  I find the pattern tail too stubby (and too low) for my tastes.  I had also planned on putting a rattle inside, but forgot until after all the ends had been woven in.

As usual you can find my finished (and unfinished!) projects in my “projects” page by clicking the tab up at the top of every page on my blog, and I also have this project in my Ravelry notebook here .

Flo is approximately 2 vintage, original 80’s-ish, squeeze-legs-and-pump-arms Supermen tall.

Last Sunday after swimming lessons we went to my parents’ house for chocolate chip pancakes, then while the kids napped in the afternoon I finalized the last bit of studying I’d wanted to get done before the surgery.  I know from both surgeries last year that I’m going to be out of it for a few days, possibly a week, taking pain medications and sleeping a lot.  I didn’t want to have to worry about studying during that, so I blocked off the first week post-op as a “no study” week.  Still, the only way that would work would be if I finished up what I had to do beforehand.

When the kids got up we went back to my parents’ for dinner.  It was a lot of running back and forth, but everyone had fun, and by 7:30pm everyone was home and the kids were in bed.  My nerves were starting to kick in.  I had been told to be at the hospital for 10:30am and to register at Emergency.  I had to fast from midnight, take a shower before bed, get into fresh, clean sheets, and then take another shower in the morning before heading out.

I wouldn’t be allowed to lift my kids, or anything, really, over 10 lbs for at least 8 weeks.  I wouldn’t be able to drive for at least 3 weeks, possibly up to 6 depending on what the doctor and insurance company say.  I would also have to be extra careful this time, because I was careful last time and ended up with a new hernia 3 weeks after the last hernia surgery.

I knew I would be home alone for a bit, at least during the days.  I knew that after the first week I would be more alert and not sleeping as much, and after my studying was done, if I were still able to sit without discomfort, I would want to knit.  BUT I wouldn’t be able to lift my yarn buckets to get anything for new projects.  So I decided to prepare a bag with the yarn/needles/notions/etc I’d need for the projects I’d want to work on while I was home.

Do you have any idea how hard it was to PICK those projects?  Knit Picks is getting some new yarn colors for me to pick from, so that yarn won’t be on its way to me for a bit, so I can’t work on that.  I have the pillows I need to complete the pillow covers for my sister-in-law…but that is of my own design and I remember only too well the messes I got into while “knitting under the (pain killer) influence” last summer.  I went through my Ravelry queue and found 2 tank tops I wanted to make, to be ready in time for this Summer…but I didn’t have enough of the right weight yarn for either one.

In the end I decided to take this time to NOT start something new, and instead to finish up stuff still lying around.  I don’t have photos handy, but in the project bag are 1) Henri’s Spiderman Blankie (I can hear Maaike cheering already), 2) my Featherweight Cardigan and 3) my Honeymoon Shawl.

Henri’s blanket was started sometime in his first year (2009), and is being made in 100% cotton (to be safe for his eczema).  It’s lovely but huge and takes a while to knit each row.  I’m probably about 60% done…though I’ll know for sure when I take it out of the bag again.  You already know about the Featherweight cardi, and the honeymoon shawl is the Shoalwater Shawl that I started while actually on my honeymoon.  In 2006.

To get everything ready I put all the project bags together.  I wound a skein of each of the red and blue yarns used for the Spidey blanket so I’d have extra with me, and I finished picking up the stitches for the Featherweight cardigan’s band so it would be ready to “pick up and knit” any time I had the chance.

Then, as directed, I changed our bedsheets and took a shower.  And somehow, ‘cus the butterflies were starting to kick in, I slept.

THIS weekend was nowhere near as exciting.  Yesterday the boys and I played, and I tried to nap while they did.  Today we had their last swimming lesson until the next session and then did brunch & supper with my family again.  Lots of tickling, lots of playing, and lots of brotherly love.  I did a few rows of the Featherweight cardi’s band while watching Supernatural with Yannick earlier, but that’s about the total of knitting done this weekend ‘cus I just don’t have the energy.

One last shot of Flo, to show the underbelly and foot pads.  For those of you who like that sort of thing.

2010-12-23

I think this is the fastest I’ve ever had a project up and on the blog, post-completion.  (It doesn’t hurt that I’ve got the day off and I charged my camera battery).

Pattern:  Mug and French Press Jacket by MK Carroll (Ravelry link)

Size:  completely modified (see below)

Yarn:  Red Heart Super Saver, Cherry Red, about 25 g for each cozy

Needles:  4mm

Dates:  December 19 – 22 2010

Modifications:  Technically I changed so much that the only thing left of the original pattern is the inspiration.  Still, that’s where I got the smocking “cable”, so I’m leaving the link.

I didn’t put a bottom or a button on it.  Instead I rejoined the top and let it be an easy tube to slip on/off.  I changed the number of sts to cast on, the number of sts to bind off, and the number of pattern repeats.  Then I cast on the 2 sts I’d bound off, and did a few more rib rows to rejoin, before binding off the top.

That was about where I crashed last night.  This morning I filled each mug with gourmet truffles, tucked in a Tim Horton’s gift card, slipped a little gift card with care instructions underneath (the green bit you can see peeking out from under) and wrapped it in clear cello-wrap.

I brought the gifts in when I dropped off the kids this morning for their last day of daycare until the new year.  The teachers seemed quite happy about their gifts.  One of the baby class teachers, who had Jakob for 2 years before now having Henri, was a little disappointed at first at not getting something handmade, when she felt the mug and saw the chocolates.  I pointed out the cozy, and she was really happy.  (She’s the one who still tells me about using the wash cloths I’d made last year).  I felt bad downsizing the gifts (the handmade portion) but now that Henri’s in the daycare too, there are 5 people to make for, not just 3.  Each class has 2 teachers, plus there is the daycare owner.

I feel like the blog has been missing some cute faces lately, so here are some recent photos of my favorite little people.

This was Henri about a week ago, on the night we moved them into the same room.  He was being silly and we had a rousing game of “Where’s Henri?” under the blinds.

That has since failed, by the way.  I had moved Henri back into his crib while he’d had a gastro/ear infection, and then on Monday we tried to put them back together, but after an hour of crying to have me with him I put Henri back in his crib and he lay down and fell asleep right away.  Tuesday night I tried again and when he wouldn’t calm down without me there I flat-out asked him where he wanted to sleep, and he said his crib.  We’ll still let them play in their room, and do story time before bed, and keep offering Henri the bed…but until he’s ready (or climbs out) we’ll let him stay in his crib.  I have to remember that he’s not even 2 yet, and unlike Jakob, who kept asking for a bed…which was a relief ‘cus we needed the crib for Henri…my little guy still prefers a crib.  And there’s nothing wrong with that.  (Actually, selfishly, it’s much, much easier on me.)

Here’s Jakob this morning.  He looked so cute with his bangs fallen down (he usually pushes them back) and his rosy cheeks and little grin that I made him pose for me.  Ok so maybe I’m biased but I can’t believe what a handsome little boy he is!

2010-12-14

What a whirlwind of a weekend!  I don’t even know where the time went, all I know is that all the stuff I’d planned on getting done (knitting, of course) just didn’t happen.

Saturday morning our plans got cancelled, and Jakob was at my mom’s house, so I brought Henri to work to surprise my dad and Yannick, and to visit the other store-owners in the area who remember and miss Henri from when he was at work with me every day.  I had planned on getting a good chunk of knitting done while he napped from 1-4:30 in the afternoon but by the time I ate lunch and baked 2 batches of cookies for a family Hanukah party I had such a headache that I really only had a chance to rest a little before getting him up from his nap.  I got some knitting knitting done that night after icing the cookies, and by the time I went to bed the first sweater was finished except for weaving in the ends and sewing down the folded cuff.

Sunday we woke up to a blizzard outside and couldn’t even look forwards to hibernating as we had plans all day long.  First we went over to my parents’ house for our Hanukah party/gift exchange with my mom’s side of the family.  We got to see my cousins who were in from Ottawa with their 8month old daughter- the first baby girl in the close family in 13 years.  (Everyone else, especially my dad’s side, has been having all boys!).  We put the kids down for their naps there so we could stay and hang out without having to rush home, but I had to leave them there and get a lift back home to get my car, ‘cus my brother Mike and I were off to the Bell Center to see Jeff Dunham (the ventriloquist).  It was an EXCELLENT show, and we had great seats up in a loge.  (I like saying that…the loge).  Sunday was also Maaike’s birthday- happy birthday Maaike!  😀

Finally on Monday I was able to get some more work done.  I finished the last bit of stuff on the first dog sweater and Chopsy’s sweater was done!

Pattern:  Icelandic Beauty by Judith L. Swartz (from the book Dogs in Knits) (Ravelry link)

Size:  M with mods

Yarn:  Red Heart Super Saver, Cherry Red, about 3/4 of one ball

Needles: 4.5 mm (neck ribbing), 4mm leg ribbing (as the neck should have been) and 5mm body

Dates:  December 9 – 13 2010

Modifications: I custom-knit this to the size of the dog, following only the shaping and such from the M size of the pattern.  Instead of 66 sts for the neck I did 60, I shortened the neck-to-armhole openings to 3”, narrowed the distance between openings to 3” and shortened the overall length to 12” (plus ribbing).

I went over to Robyn’s yesterday to meet my new cousin Quentin.  He’s SO CUTE!!  A little tiny thing, just over 5lbs but oy is he adorable!

I baked a cake for our guild potluck tonight (baked it Mon for Tues) and while it was in the oven I did a major change with the boys- we put Henri into Jakob’s room!  Not only are the boys now sharing a room, but it was also Henri’s first time in a big boy bed, no more crib!

Truth be told, Henri is much more adventurous than Jakob, and I don’t 100% feel it is safe for him to be out of a crib at night, but the other night he swung his leg over the side of the crib and balanced with one foot on the mattress, and the other hanging over the side.  Luckily he didn’t realize it, but all he had to do was shift his weight to the front and he’d have been over the edge and out of the crib.  I would MUCH rather him fall out of bed than fall out of the crib, and the single bed was already set up in Jakob’s room, along with his queen bed (it’s a bunk bed set, but not stacked yet).  We could have taken apart the crib and the single bed and moved the single bed over into Henri’s baby room, but we knew we would be putting them together eventually so we’re trying it now.

The boys were quite excited and wanted to sleep in the same bed.  It went well at first- Henri cried when I left him but within a minute Jakob took over and got his brother laughing.  It was a riot to hear them through the monitor:

Jakob: Want a sandwich Henri?

Henri: Yeah.

Jakob: Want a peanut butter sandwich?

Henri: Yeah.

Jakob: I like toast.

There was no food in the room, just the products of an over-imaginative three-and-a-half-year-old mind.  There was also a tickle fight for about 8 minutes, followed by a rousing chorus of Jakob singing “I love you a bushel and a peck”, which cracked me up because instead of “a barrel and a heap” Jakob sang “a barrel and a sheep”.  🙂

Everything was going great but Yannick and I had put them to bed around 7:15 and it was now 9-ish and they were still laughing.  I went in to break up the party and Henri started crying and wouldn’t stop without me in the room.  Finally at 9:30 I caved and lay on the bed with them, rubbing Henri’s tummy until he calmed down and they both fell asleep.

I took this photo with my iphone right before sneaking out.  Jakob was asleep up in the corner and Henri towards me, with the blanket.

When I got out of their room my headache from the other day had come back, but I knew I had to finish getting my lemom/poppy seed bundt cake ready for the guild potluck.  (Yannick watched the timer and took it out of the oven for me).

Well.  I don’t know what happened, since I PAMed and floured the pan just like the last 2 times I used it, but for the first time ever the cake got stuck in the pan.  RRR!  Go figure, when it takes 2 hours to soak the poppy seeds and hour to bake and I don’t have duplicate ingredients, at 10:30pm the cake goes and breaks on me!

I tried to hide it as best as I could with some leftover cookies from the Hanukah party.  Think anyone will notice?
